World diabetes day

EYE HEALTH IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE, OUR NUMBER ONE PASSION.

And as today marks World Diabetes Day, we want to tell you about the services we offer in relation to this condition.

It is estimated that 1 in 2 people living with diabetes are undiagnosed. While most of us know something about diabetes, fewer people know how it can affect your sight and why eye tests are so important.

People with diabetes can develop a condition known as ‘diabetic retinopathy’. This is when the diabetes causes changes in blood cells that feed the retina. These changes occur gradually and can lead to severe vision loss or even blindness, so early detection and treatment is essential. We recommend that diabetic patients have a full eye health check at least once a year.

For non-diabetic clients we recommend an eye test at least every 2 years. During these eye tests, we can detect changes that may indicate diabetes. We would refer you to your GP for further tests, enabling you to seek early treatment and correctly manage the condition.

We use state of the art Zeiss optical equipment and Silverberg is the only optician in Liverpool city centre that is a certified Zeiss Premier Partner. If your eye sight has changed in any way or you have concerns relating to diabetes and eye health, please contact us.

You can book your appointment on 0151 709 2012.
